12月に入り街はすっかりクリスマスモード。先日久々にスウェーデン人のLanguage Exchange友達と話していたら、彼らのクリスマスの過ごし方が私たちとは全然違っていて、すごく面白かったのでご紹介したいと思います。

サンタはイブの「夜中」には来ない
まず一番面白かったのが、クリスマスのプレゼントの渡し方です。日本のサンタクロースは真夜中にこっそり来て、靴下にプレゼントを入れてくれますよね？でも、スウェーデンではクリスマスイブに家に直接やって来るそうです！誰か家族がトムテに扮して、集まっている部屋に「優しい子はいるかな？」って言いながら入ってきて、子どもたちに手渡しでプレゼントをくれるんですって。…いわば「逆なまはげ」なのね？
イブの日には皆でディズニー番組を見る
それから、クリスマスイブには国民的な「お決まり」の過ごし方もあるそうです。それはなんと、夕方3時か4時くらいに放送されるディズニーの特別番組『ドナルドダックと仲間たち』を家族みんなで観ることだそうです。友人曰く、これはもうどこの家庭もそうで、「これを見ないとクリスマスって感じがしない！」というくらい、長年愛されている伝統らしいです。日本のおおみそかの紅白みたいなもんですかね。
テレビを見終わったら待望のプレゼントタイム！
で、この番組を見終わったら、ようやくサンタがプレゼントを持ってくるうちもあれば、来ないおうちは「プレゼント・オープン！タイム」となるそうです。ちなみに、日本の感覚では「サンタ（プレゼント）来るの早くね？」って思うんですが、この時期の日没は、スウェーデンでは午後3時半くらいとのこと。ちょうど日が落ちていよいよクリスマスムード最高潮！のタイミングだと思えば、違和感はないですね！

じゃあNORAD Santa Trackerはスウェーデンをどう扱うのか…？
そういえば、そのトムテの話の流れで、私が「サンタさんが今どこにいるかNORAD Santa Tracker（ノーラッド・サンタ・トラッカー）っていうウェブサイトで追跡できるのがあるじゃん。あれアジアもスウェーデンも含めて全世界回ってるから、イブにやってくるのはスウェーデンのボーナスラウンドみたいなもんだね」って話をしてました。

が、後から調べたところ、どうやらスウェーデンでプレゼントを運んでくるのは厳密にはサンタとは別の「トムテ（Tomten）」というクリスマスの妖精らしく、NORAD Santa Trackerではカウント外なのもうなずけました（笑）ちなみに、NORAD Santa Trackerについてご存じない方はこちら。ちなみに北米の空を守るのが本来のお仕事のNORADは1955年から広告のミスプリントがきっかけで、サンタ追跡のお仕事を始めたそうです。
